Software
Software was first used in term in 1957 by John
W. Tukey. The term in itself means application software which is information
and instructions that run on computer systems. In this day, computer software
is very common. Every home and office uses it to some extent and most hardware
components also require it to tell the component what to do. Without the
discovery of software, most of today’s general items would not be possible.
Computer software is simply a computer program
that gives the computer a set of instructions on what to do and how to do it.
Software can do almost anything with a computer, whether it’s a computer game,
desktop application (virus scanner) or server application (website) it’s all
there. While some of the more advanced software can cost a lot of money, some
software can be absolutely free. This type of software is generally known as
freeware or open source. Open source applications are great, not only are the
free but they also allow non-affiliated developers to create their very own
software modules and fix any bugged code in the application.
Most software can be very useful and fun for
us, however, you must always be cautious when installing new software as
computer virus software is very common. Computer virus software can cause
malicious and annoying problems if it’s accidentally installed on your
computer. Because of Computer virus software, it is recommended that you use a
computer virus scanner such as Norton or AVG to prevent such problems.
Because of all the great benefits of software,
many people have learned the skill of computer programming. It’s not just computer scientists and
technicians that are programming now. This allows individuals to write
their own applications that can be run from home, in the office or just about
anywhere else. Languages including C/C++, Assembly and Visual Basic which is a
very easy but perfect language to use for beginners are just a selected few
among hundreds of other programming languages which are capable of writing
computer applications.
When people think of the term software, they
tend to think along the lines of desktop applications such as worksheets and
computer games which certainly is true, however, the term extends further than
this. Almost anything which uses hardware requires some form of execution of an
application to provide instructions for performing. Thanks to this term that
has made many things possible!
